Between 1642 and 1649, eight French Jesuits in North America were martyred by members of indigenous tribes. All had been working tirelessly to bring native people on the continent to the Catholic faith. The feast holds significance for the Society of Jesus in the United States and Canada because of the seeds of faith that these Jesuits sowed, and the faith to which their martyrdom testifies.
The first day of the novena will focus on French Jesuit missionary and martyr, St. Isaac Jogues.
