Yap Catholic High School Celebrates Class of 2014

To celebrate the accomplishments of these young men and women, family members presented the graduates with flower leis; many wore dozens of leis before the day was through.

On May 31, 2014, Yap Catholic High School (YCHS) in Micronesia graduated its first class of six seniors.

In addition to the teachers, students, friends and family that were present at the graduation, V. Rev. David Ciancimino, SJ, New York Province provincial flew to Micronesia to take part in the celebration. Fr. Ciancimino was responsible for missioning Frs. Michael Corcoran, SJ, and John Mulreany, SJ, to Micronesia in 2011 to start a Catholic high school on Yap. Within five weeks, the two Jesuits, along with two volunteer teachers, welcomed 35 students into the first freshman and sophomore classes.

Earlier this year, Fr. Corcoran announced that all members of the YCHS Class of 2014 were accepted into 4-year colleges in the U.S., with many receiving generous scholarship support.
