On Thursday, June 19 at 6 p.m. the Centro Altagracia de Fe y Justicia will hold the Second Annual Faith and Justice Award Ceremony. The event is a chance to recognize a person who has used their faith to work for justice. It is also a chance to celebrate the life of the former Provincial of the New York Province, Fr. Gerald “Jeff” Chojnacki, SJ, who passed away in 2012.

While provincial, Fr. Chojnacki was responsible for fostering the Centro Altagracia as a work of the province. Established in 2005, the Centro was a way to reach out to the Washington Heights and Inwood communities.

In continuing Fr. Chojnacki’s legacy, this year’s event will honor Fr. Mario Serrano, SJ. Fr. Serrano is a Jesuit from the Antillas Province who has worked as an advocate for the rights of migrants living in the United States as well as the Dominican Republic.
