March 19 is the Feast of St. Joseph, the husband of the Virgin Mary and foster father of Jesus.
In the video below Fr. James Martin, SJ, talks about how Joseph lived a “hidden life.” He says, “Joseph is a model for all of us who try to lead these very good and holy lives that may not be seen by many other people but they are seen by God.” The Gospels have a gap from when Jesus is 12 to when he is 30 and starting his ministry. “If you think about it, that’s 18 years of Jesus’ life,” continued Fr. Martin. “And who are Jesus’ primary teachers? Well, Mary but also Joseph.” Joseph would have helped with Jesus’ upbringing and taught Jesus about his Jewish faith.
