Groundbreaking at Cristo Rey High School in Atlanta

Cristo Rey Atlanta Jesuit High School, with special guests Mayor Kasim Reed and Archbishop Wilton Gregory, hosted a groundbreaking for the future Jesuit high school Monday morning, Sept. 9.

Cristo Rey Atlanta will provide economically disadvantaged Atlanta youth a Jesuit college preparatory education and a corporate work study experience, to students who live in urban communities with limited educational options.

According to Mayor Reed, the school has a 100% graduation record and its students will be required to not only do their school work, but also hold a part-time job.

The school is open to students of all denominations. According to a written statement, “the Cristo Rey Network empowers thousands of students from underserved lower-income communities to develop their minds and hearts to become lifelong contributors to society.”

Cristo Rey provides students a college preparatory education and a four-year, integrated corporate work study experience.  The school will be located at 680 West Peachtree St. NW, near 3rd street in Midtown Atlanta.
