Feeling like playing golf and supporting the work of the Jesuits at the same time? Join our Fourth Annual Friends of the Jesuits Golf Outing at the prestigious Meadow Brook Club in Jericho, NY, on September 30th. There are many opportunities for participation.
In addition, from now through October 31, your gift to the New York Province of Jesuits will be matched dollar-for dollar up to $50,000, thanks to a generous Friend of the Jesuits.
The matching contribution will be designated by the Friends of the Jesuits Golf Outing for the purchase of a generator at Murray-Weigel Hall, our Jesuit Healthcare Facility for senior and infirm Jesuits.
The Friends of the Jesuits first Golf Outing was held in 2010 when Gary Goodenough, Brian Devaney and Pete Dagher recognized the need to assist the Jesuits. Through their efforts and the generous support of their committee members, friends and colleagues, just over $500,000 has been raised through our first three outings.
These outstanding gifts benefited those in need served by various Jesuit ministries and it also helped in the care and support for senior and infirm Jesuits. Assistance has been provided to parishes, the retreat ministry, schools, social ministries and missions. Necessary renovations are proceeding in earnest at Murray-Weigel Hall, the Jesuit health care facility. The first Catholic high school on the island of Yap in Micronesia was opened and classrooms are being constructed.
The Jesuits carry out so many ministries in the Church today – wherever the need is greatest. They are serving the people of Harlem, the Bronx, Buffalo and Brooklyn by opening schools like Nativity and Cristo Rey. They offer the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius through retreat ministries and administer six parishes in New York State. They support colleges and universities and support the local churches in Africa and Micronesia. They initiate new ministries in social justice and stand ready to accept new challenges to support the growing Church in Latin America, Asia and Africa.
On behalf of the Jesuits and all those that will benefit from your generosity, thank you!
